The Story Behind the Baluchi Tribal Hand Knotted Rug

Many Baluch rugs are prayer rugs, woven with an arched niche, the mihrab, that faces toward Mecca when the rug is laid down. Here the niche is a deep olive-black filled with small flowers in rose and green, set inside a bright saffron border that runs all the way round. It is knotted in wool coloured with natural dyes, and the pile leans one way, so the dark field deepens from one end.
