Review

It’s my first purchase from Imam Carpets and I’m happy that I found a very reputable and genuine place to shop online without a fear of being cheated in terms of quality.

The Story Behind the Zielger Afghan Chobi Hand Knotted Rug

In the late 1800s, Ziegler & Co., a Manchester trading firm, set up rug workshops in Sultanabad, Persia, and had the classic floral patterns drawn larger and softer for European rooms. About a century later, Afghan weavers working with merchants in Lahore revived those designs as Chobi, from the Dari word for wood, after the earthy colours of natural dyes. Here the Ziegler flowers sit in ivory and blue on a black field, inside a wide cream border.

How it was made

Construction: Hand Knotted
Every knot tied by hand on a loom, then cut to make the pile.
Knot: Senneh knot
The asymmetrical knot, also called the Persian knot. The yarn wraps one warp thread, which allows finer detail.
Density: 101–140 knots per square inch
Knots in every square inch. The higher the count, the finer the detail and the longer the rug takes to knot.
Pile: Low pile
Material: Wool
