Review

It’s my first purchase from Imam Carpets and I’m happy that I found a very reputable and genuine place to shop online without a fear of being cheated in terms of quality.

The Story Behind the Suzani Afghan Chobi Hand Knotted Rug

Suzani, from suzan, the Persian word for needle, are the embroidered textiles of Uzbekistan and Central Asia, traditionally stitched by a bride and the women of her family for her dowry. Their large, round blossoms and leaves are knotted here into a Chobi rug: red, blue and saffron flowers spread across a grey-green ground with dark green leaves, as bold as the embroidery they come from.

How it was made

Construction: Hand Knotted
Every knot tied by hand on a loom, then cut to make the pile.
Knot: Senneh knot
The asymmetrical knot, also called the Persian knot. The yarn wraps one warp thread, which allows finer detail.
Density: 101–140 knots per square inch
Knots in every square inch. The higher the count, the finer the detail and the longer the rug takes to knot.
Pile: Low pile
Material: Wool
